Malaysia: Avoid Roaming Charges With Umobile WiFi Calling

Umobile WiFi Calling is a new feature that allows you to make and receive calls over WiFi using your mobile number. It helps you stay connected even when you have limited, no network coverage or you are living in a high-rise building where you suffer from poor network coverage, you can also call home from overseas with local call rates and I wonder that there’s no additional charge to enjoy WiFi-Calling with Umobile WorldWide roaming network.

We have discussed Digi WiFi-Calling in our recent post and demonstrated how to set up WiFi-Calling with Digi's Roaming networks. Today we're going to share Umobile WiFi-Calling will show you the free calls back to Malaysia while Roaming with Telenor, Pakistan

All U Mobile subscribers on postpaid and prepaid plans are eligible for WiFi Calling, do ensure that your rate plan supports “voice call”. It is not available for plans such as Postpaid MB

Activate Umobile VoLTE/WiFi Calling

  1. Activate the service (send “wificalling on” via SMS to 28118) or Say "Hello" to  Umobile Support to Activate;
  2. Enable WiFi Calling on your phone by going to set or type wifi calling into setting's search bar;
  3. Connect to a WiFi network If WiFi Calling is available, you’ll see the “VoWiFi” or WiFi icon with the receiver icon beside the signals.

Activate VoLTE & WiFi Calling From Settings

To enable WiFi Calling on an iOS device make sure your iOS device is up to date, repeat the steps below to update to the latest version iOS:

  1. Goto Settings>General;
  2. Under the General Menu Tap on About;
  3. Tap the Update button when promoted.

Now we will turn on WiFi Calling from Phone Settings.
  1. Go Back to Settings;
  2. Scroll down & search for "Phone";
  3. Select WiFi Calling;
  4. Turn on the WiFi Calling by sliding the Toggle button;
  5. Tap Enable When the Confirmation Message pops up.
That's it, we have done the necessary settings to enable Umobile WiFi Calling in the next step we going to test the WiFi Calling while Roaming in Pakistan (Telenor, Pk).

Supported WiFi Calling Devices

There are many devices or phones which support WiFi calling. For reference, the followings are a few popular phone models shared by Umobile in WiFi Calling Faqs, So make sure that your device is supported before leaving Malaysia.

Supported Devices:
iPhone: iPhone 5S/ 5C and newer models
Samsung: Samsung Note8, Galaxy S7 and newer models
Huawei: Huawei Mate 10, P20 and newer models
Oppo: Oppo Reno 4 and newer models

Please note that the above list is not exhaustive. Kindly check with the Smartphone manufacturer for compatibility.

Incoming & Out Going Calls made over WiFi Calling will use your plan’s minutes where applicable, even when you’re overseas. If you do not have any free bundle of voice minutes, you’ll be charged the pay-per-use rate & International calls will follow the standard IDD rates.
